What is ISANA NZ?
ISANA International Education Association New Zealand Inc. (called ISANA NZ (pronounced eye-sar-nar) for short) is an association for international education professionals in New Zealand. ISANA NZ has over 130 members from secondary schools, universities, ITPs (Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics), PTEs (Private Training Establishments), and other institutes/organisations throughout New Zealand. The current membership includes professionals working in student welfare, marketing, admissions, research, teaching and service provision in New Zealand's secondary and tertiary sectors.
With skills in programme development and delivery, teaching, management, and a range of other roles, ISANA NZ members have been key contributors to the high level of international student services across all education sectors in New Zealand. Our collective knowledge and experience create a powerful network of individuals dedicated to professional standards and best practice for the benefit of students.

The Objects of ISANA NZThe objects of the ISANA NZ are (whilst conducting its activities in New Zealand) to advance international education and in particular:
- Facilitating the professional development of members; - Liaison with and lobbying of government and other agencies on policy matters relating to international students in New Zealand.

- Educate and advocate for the well-being of international students and those who work with them within New Zealand.
- Initiate, manage and participate in projects and research of benefit to the international education sector.
- Develop and publish material of benefit to international education.
- Advocate for International education by:
- Raising the profile of New Zealand as a notable study and living destination for international students;
- Setting, maintaining and encouraging standards of best practice.
The Background of ISANA NZ
ISANA was established in Australia in 1989 and has a branch in each state and territory. The New Zealand branch of ISANA was formed in 2001 by ISANA members resident in New Zealand. In 2010, the New Zealand branch became an incorporated trust. ISANA International Education Association New Zealand Inc., better known as ISANA NZ, continues to work in association with ISANA.
In 2013, ISANA NZ set up and registered a new incorporated trust with the Charities Commission. This new trust, ISANA New Zealand Charitable Trust Inc., was set up to fund activities such as awards, scholarships, and research projects which will benefit New Zealand's international education industry.

How does ISANA NZ work?
ISANA NZ is governed by an executive committee elected by the ISANA NZ members. The executive committee members work in different sectors of the international education industry throughout New Zealand, and so are able to provide a variety of perspectives, skills and knowledge.
ISANA NZ supports International Education in New Zealand through:
- Informing members of the most recent industry research and information
- Connecting members with the right people
- Providing members with better ways to access information
- Offering professional development to members
- Helping members to give their students the best academic, social and cultural experience
- Introducing members to an approachable and readily-accessible network of professionals
- Suggesting pathways for further work opportunities
ISANA NZ assists institutions by:
- Offering a wider opportunity for professional development of your staff through current information, workshops and research
- Using innovative training to professionally develop your staff
- Encouraging professional standards through the ISANA "Code of Ethics”
- Providing your staff with access to an international knowledge network through ISANA NZ membership

ISANA NZ offers specific or tailor-made workshops. Workshop presenters cater for specific Professional Development requirements to meet the needs of members and institutions.
